Convective initiation west of Kirksville, MO
Monday, featured a chase with a SLGT risk in south central Iowa and northern Missouri along a stationary front. A few left over outflow boundaries were hanging around from the previous nights convection in Iowa. Originally, we targeted Lamoni, IA and teamed up with the Vortex Ventures team: Brandon Sullivan and Chris Fitzgerald. We reviewed data in Lamoni, IA for most of the day and pulled the plug on some severe thunderstorms initiating to our south in northern Missouri. Storms were really not that impressive for tornadoes, but featured lots of heavy rain and hail. We got cored west of Kirksville, MO where we parted ways. As we did I decided to punch through Kirskville, MO to get a better look visually at this storm since we were in a radar hole. To my surprise I found a well-defined rotating wall cloud on the southeast-side of the city along U.S. 63. Not one radar around picked up on this! Does this city need a radar or what...seriously! Nothing produced from it however, and after wards I made the long-drive home hoping to have a backyard chase the next day. A few images from this chase can be found below:

Overall, a decent chase given the marginal ingredients in this current synoptic pattern. I managed to chase the next day as well and I'll post some photos from that interesting chase day shortly...
