10/16/13 Starved Rock Fall Foliage: 2013

Fall foliage at Starved Rock State Park near Oglesby, IL

On this day, I visited Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park to add to my 2013 fall collection. I would later make a couple trips back over the next week or so as fall colors began to peak in this area. I've always wanted to visit this park during autumn and also have a few days to photograph the park. It finally worked out this past year with my schedule which was long overdue. I was able to walk nearly the entire park over the few days I spent visiting this park. It's an adventure for sure if you have never been here especially if you hike along the trails all day. My feet were killing me by the end of day(s)!  Plus, add the ever growing camera gear in my backpack I was quite pleased to rest after I made the short trip back home to Peoria, IL. It was quite a successful few days of photography at this park however, and I'm sure I'll be back...soon. I've added quite a number of photos from these few visits to the park below:

This was a rather long post, but long overdue. I'll revisit this park I'm sure in the upcoming years. It was a successful few days of photography at this park and I was quite pleased with the results. I also continued to photograph locally over the next few weeks as the fall colors peaked. I'm working on another post that will wrap up my 2013 fall collection and I will post that at a later date. Stay tuned.

10/13/13 Autumn Portraits at NIU

Vicky and I enjoying a fall morning at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL

On this day, my girlfriend and I enjoyed the fall morning and early afternoon by doing some photography on campus before a Northern Illinois Huskies football game later that evening in Dekalb, IL. After dodging raindrops and even a thunderstorm at one point we were able to find some locations on campus to shoot a few portraits. Earlier in the year, we also did some portraits as well seen here. I've added a few of our photos from this particular day below:

Thought I'd title this caption "Sparks fly"
Vicky getting ready for a photo. An incredibly random
shot that turned out quite well!
Davis Hall worked as a nice background indeed!
Vicky and some fountains behind Davis Hall...
 Near the lagoon on campus...
 One of my favorites!
Vicky on a bridge across the lagoon...
A quick portrait with a "hint" of fall in the background!
The skies beginning to break up to allow some sunshine to filter through...
"Under Heaven's Skies"
Vicky taking a "shot" of Altgeld Hall as the sun finally
makes an appearance!
One more shot of Vicky in front of Altgeld Hall
before we head to the football game...

That will wrap up this post. Over the next few weeks I was quite busy with fall photography and I'll be posting those photos in the coming days as well.

10/13/13 Northern Illinois University Fall Foliage: 2013

Fall foliage in October beginning to show itself on campus at
Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL

A few months ago, I was quite busy photographing fall scenes at various locations locally and within a few hours of Peoria, IL. I always enjoy that particular time of the year as you usually can find some beautiful autumn scenes near the end of the growing season. On this day, I revisited Northern Illinois University to snap some fall shots and portraits during the morning and attend the football game on campus in the afternoon. It had been quite some time since I last visited up to this point. It was nice to enjoy the day on campus where I graduated college and see the changes on campus. I've added a few photos I shot with Vicky while we were walking around on campus during the morning below:

Davis Hall (looking west)
Leaves beginning to change...
I spent much of my college days attending class in this building...
 Signs of fall!
The lagoon on campus!
A morning reflection on the lagoon...
A nice vibrant fall scene! (Davis Hall)
A rather dark scene with rain moving-in...
Fountain near the center of campus...
 Davis Hall once again...
I was a little early for "peak" fall colors on this day, but I
would do much better over the next few weeks at other locations...
 "An autumn walk on campus"

That ends this quick post. I'll be posting another post with some portraits shot on this day shortly. More fall photography to come in later posts as I visited some new locations over the last few months as I finally have been getting caught up on here after a rather long "blogging hiatus"...
